Brinker International, Inc. (NYSE:EAT) Insiders Increased Their Holdings - Yahoo Finance

It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Brinker International, Inc. (NYSE:EAT).

What Is Insider Buying?

Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.

Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.

Brinker International Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Senior VP & Chief Supply Chain Officer Charles Lousignont made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$111k worth of shares at a price of US$43.00 each. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$44.41 per share to be enticing. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. Happily, the Brinker International insiders decided to buy shares at close to current prices.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 6.59k shares for US$270k. On the other hand they divested 1693 shares, for US$67k. Overall, Brinker International insiders were net buyers last year.
