The Washington Post Press Freedom Partnership expands to include International Press Institute and National Press Club - Washington Post

“The Post Press Freedom Partnership has more than doubled in membership size since we launched it in November 2018, providing a global platform for sharing the important work of organizations such as the International Press Institute and National Press Club.” said Fred Ryan, publisher and CEO of The Post. “We’ve seen international conversations sparked by partner messages published in The Post and regular engagement among Post readers who have shown great enthusiasm about bolstering press freedom worldwide. We look forward to continuing to raise awareness working with our growing group of partners.”

“We are profoundly honored to join The Washington Post’s Press Freedom Partnership. For the past almost seven decades, IPI has worked to promote independent journalism and defend the right of the press to hold those in power accountable,” said Barbara Trionfi, executive director of IPI. “The battles we were able to win are those where journalists and news organizations joined forces in support of their shared values. As we witness increased authoritarian tendencies in many countries, the Press Freedom Partnership is needed more than ever.”

“We are honored to join this important initiative, and humbled to be in the company of some of the most respected leaders in the press freedom community,” said Bill McCarren, executive director of the National Press Club. “We applaud The Washington Post for using its vast global influence to shine a light on the essential work that press freedom organizations are doing to protect and defend journalists and journalism around the world.”

In addition to viewing the complimentary advertisements that The Post has made available to press freedom partners online and in print, readers can now follow the latest updates from partner organizations and press freedom issues worldwide through the Post Press Freedom Partnership Twitter at @wppressfreedom.
