Cleveland International Film Festival announces streaming festival, trailer debut and other reinventions - cleveland.com

Cleveland, Ohio – The show will go on – at home – for the 44th annual Cleveland International Film Festival.

On what would have been their opening day, the CIFF is announcing CIFF Streams. This online April mini-festival will feature many of feature and short films slated to be part of the CIFF44 line-up. Full information, including film details, pricing and launch date, will be released soon.

“It costs us money to do this, at a time when it is hard to come up with funds, but our board is making this possible,” says executive director Marcie Goodman. “We aren’t doing this as a moneymaker. Our motivation is to be able to do something for the filmmakers and our community

Until CIFF Streams begins, CIFF supporters can visit clevelandfilm.org/alums for a listing of CIFF film alums from the past three festivals that are available for streaming.

But CIFF is not just streaming movies online. At 10 a.m. today at clevelandfilm.org, they will release this year’s trailer, always a much-anticipated talker. Sponsored by Jinny and John Johnson, this year’s trailer was created by Fusion Filmworks and features the song “Miles to Go” from local musicians Astronymer and Jul Big Green.

The Festival will also be launching its annual Challenge Match today, “which in these times of enormous financial uncertainty is more crucial than ever as we strive to build a stable road forward for CIFF” says a news release. Donations can be made at clevelandfilm.org/donate. New CIFF44 merchandise is also available on their site.

And that’s not all. CIFF will also be releasing new episodes of their CIFF Speaks podcast. Listeners can join hosts Dee Perry and Aaron Spears as they talk film and host guests joining them to discuss all things CIFF. Episodes will be available at clevelandfilm.org/ciffspeaks or on iTunes and Stitcher.

“We wanted to provide the community with something,” says marketing and media director Debby Samples. “This is what we have worked on all year and most people would not be able to see these films outside of festivals.”

The festival had been planned for March 25-April 5 at Tower City Cinemas and venues around town. This was to be the last year at Tower City. It will move to its new and permanent home in Playhouse Square on April 7-18, 2021.
