Iran vows response to any US threat | TheHill - The Hill

Iranian officials on Saturday promised to respond to any threats from the U.S. amid rising tensions between the two countries.

“Regardless of any decision they [U.S. officials] make... we will not allow any of Iran’s borders to be violated. Iran will firmly confront any aggression or threat by America,” foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi told Tasnim news agency, according to Reuters.

“This is our response to a violation of Iranian space and if the violation is repeated then our response will be repeated,” Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps aerospace chief Amirali Hajizadeh was quoted as saying in the Islamic Republic News Agency, according to Reuters.

“It’s possible that this infringement of the Americans was carried out by a general or some operators,” Hajizadeh added.

Tensions with Iran have skyrocketed recently after Iran shot down an American drone. The two countries differ on where the drone was.

The U.S. also accused Tehran of bombing two foreign oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Iran denied any involvement.

Following the tanker bombings, the Pentagon announced it was sending 1,000 additional troops to the region.

Iran responded by saying it intends to surpass the limits imposed on its nuclear enrichment stockpile by the Obama-era nuclear agreement which President Trump pulled out of last year.
